After three years of living on opposite sides of the planet, the Pitch Black boys (Paddy Free and Michael Hodgson) have been holed up in a variety of studios in the Coromandel, Piha, Wellington and central Auckland, working on 'Ape To Angel', an album of deep luscious dub. 'Ape To Angel' is another creative and compelling slab of cross-genre dub beats and mind-expanding sounds. Since the release of 'Electronomicon' in 2000 and its follow-up remix album, Pitch Black have been touring to the UK and all over Europe each northern summer with jaunts home to play festivals and shows in NZ and Australia. The new locations and experiences have been the spawning ground for many of the songs and vibes on 'Ape To Angel'. As well as their musical OE, the last few years have seen Paddy working as producer on two Salmonella Dub albums and Michael creating soundscapes for the web and for games. 2003 saw the limited release of the FLEX ep, which showcased a couple of tracks from the new album. The rich, luscious sound and evolving compositions showing off the new production skills and technological tricks Michael and Paddy have been developing.
