Abigail Samson wants nothing more than to lead a happy, normal life. She wants to be carefree and to daydream about college like all of the other seniors at her high school. Instead, she finds herself facing one of the toughest times in her life. After receiving news of her sister's death in a tragic car accident, Abbey struggles to find a way to cope with the grief and guilt stemming from her loss. At home, she is haunted by the all too fresh memories of her sister, as well as the stress from her mother's constant chastisements about her battle with anorexia. After one week out of school, Abbey attempts to go back to her normal life, convincing herself that she can move past all of her sadness. But an incident in her English class proves beyond a doubt that she is nowhere near ready to move on with her life. Feeling even more defeated, she finds solace in her neighbor and best friend, Tyler, who seems to be the only person in her life who cares about her. He spends every single day with her, and after awhile, Abbey begins to feel like maybe she isn't drowning after all. But an exceptionally heated argument with her mother one night pushes Abbey to run away from her apartment and out into the streets to the point where she gets completely lost. She has no clue where she is, it's dark, and the temperature is well below zero. Things only get worse when she stumbles upon a group of dangerous looking guys who trap her in an alley. With nowhere to run and nobody to save her, Abbey is terrified at the thought of what these guys are going to do to her. Just as Abbey braces herself for the worst, Tyler somehow miraculously appears and comes to her defense. She soon realizes, however, that Tyler is her only chance of survival, and that he is outnumbered three to one. As the fight breaks out, Abbey quickly gets knocked against a wall. Stuck on the sidelines with a massive concussion, Abbey watches as her whole world crashes down right before her eyes. When she wakes up in the hospital a few days later, she finds a surprisingly familiar face. It's Jacob Henson, her long time crush and chemistry project partner. Tyler has disappeared, and for some reason unbeknownst to Abbey, Jacob suddenly becomes extremely and uncomfortably involved in her life. As increasingly peculiar things keep happening around her, Abbey finds that Jacob is keeping secrets from her, secrets that explain all the chaos in her life. But when Abbey reaches the point of no return, Jacob finally reveals the truth about her and her past. Abbey discovers that she is a reincarnated Nephilim warrior, half-angel and half-human, whose sole purpose in life is to protect a mystical necklace that contains a precious Heavenly substance. She must keep it from falling into the grips of the vampires, who want to take the necklace and corrupt its power in order to bring Hell to Earth. Now she must grapple with the grief of losing her two most loved ones, her confusing and exhausting feelings for Jacob, and the fact that the fate of Heaven and Earth lies in her hands. But if she can't even get her own life together, how is she supposed to save everyone else? Author Bio: Jessica Olko is a freelance author who has been writing short stories since she was a child.
