Moby Dick is a television miniseries based on Herman Melville's 1851 novel of the same name, starring William Hurt.
The sole survivor of a lost whaling ship relates the tale of his captain's self-destructive obsession to hunt the white whale, Moby Dick. Ethan Hawke & William Hurt star in this new version of the classic take of a sea captain's duel with the great white whale. Ishmael sees his dream of a whaling voyage come true when he joins the crew of the Pequod, a sailing vessel leaving port in Nantucket. Unbeknownst to Ishmael and the mates, the Pequods monomaniacal Captain Ahab is taking them all on a mad and personal mission to slay the great white whale, Moby Dick.
“Moby Dick is not the best version of the story put to screen, but it's a strong, ambitious production that mostly works. The back-stories bug me a little bit, but they disappear quickly enough to make me forget about them as the seafaring gets going, so they become pretty meaningless. This is good maritime action-adventure that moves well for its three-hour run time and I can easily recommend.” – DVD Verdict
“A lavish, exciting, well-acted and admirably thorough movie adaptation of Herman Melville's 1851 classic.” – Washington Post
