Kiwiana Goes Pop Volume 2 ~ CD ~ Various
Another unique collection of classic kiwiana from yesterday and today! Kiwiana Goes Pop Volume 2 celebrates everything that makes us kiwis tick, no one will need to look up the recipe for Pavlova ever again as The Pavs featuring Jordan Luck sing the recipe for us, two excellent songs recorded for the 2011 Rugby World Cup in the form of The Miramar Chess Club’s ‘I’ll Never Be An All Black’ featuring Rugby commentators past and present. Heimlich Manouevres In the Park caused a sensation during the RWC with their ‘24 Years’ track and it makes its CD debut on this collection. Linn Lorkin’s ‘Family At The Beach’ encapsulates the kiwi Summer while modern Kiwiana exponent Justin Brown extols the virtues of modern day Aotearoa. The Mainland is represented by The Coalrangers with their ‘West Coast Bound’ and Phil Garland’s ‘Proud To Be A Kiwi’. From our Summer game dept we have Albie W and The Wickets with their ode to Richard Hadlee, ‘Cmon Paddles’ while Tim Finn chips in with his ‘Runs In the Family’ which was recorded to celebrate NZ Cricket’s 100th Anniversary. Iconic advertisements that became hits include The Warratah’s ’InterIslander’, John Grenell’s ‘Welcome To Our World’, Al Hunter’s ‘There’s A Blue Sky Waiting For Me’ and Wayne Mason’s version of ‘Nature’ as featured on the butter ads. Four of Kiwidom’s funniest people Fane Flaws, John Clarke and The Topp Twins get together to record children’s stories with hilarious results. New Zealand is a small country and even our biggest stars have had to fall back on advertising jingles to make a living. We have included Billy T. James’ ad for Auckland’s MOTAT museum, Fiona McDonald singing the perfect pop jingle for Columbine Hosiery while Annie Crummer and Bunny Walters turn in some of their most soulful vocals ever for Soda Stream and Uncles burgers respectively. New recordings of perennial favourites include Tom Sharplin and Ray Woolf’s version of ‘Ten Guitars’ and When The Cat’s Been Spayed’s version of ‘Down the Hall On A Saturday Night’, while The Hamilton County Bluegrass Band reprise their Hip Hi pantyhose ad from Volume 1 with their celebration of ‘Long Johns’ (put ‘em on and leave all winter long). Kiwiana Goes Pop Volume 2 – be prepared to laugh, cry, stand up and salute and then laugh again!
