It remains unpublished. His career began on a more formal basis five years later, when he began supplying motorsport reports and photographs to local newspapers in his native Cheshire, England. Upon graduation from Sheffield University in 1982, he joined British specialist weekly Motoring News and has worked in the industry ever since. He has edited both Motoring News and Motor Sport and also spent several years in road-car journalism, as production editor of Fast Lane. He turned freelance in 1996 and nowadays contributes to a wide number of newspapers and magazines, including The Daily Telegraph, Motorsport "(formerly Motoring)" News, Motor Sport, F1 Racing and Car Graphic (Japan). He has written several books and also works as a translator (French-English), when time allows. His hobbies include music, photography, and ornithology. Married with two children, he received his first copy of Autocourse on December 25 1975: he has been a regular contributor to the title for several years and in 2011 was appointed editor of his favourite Christmas present.
