ITINERARY Day 1: Arrive in Delhi Today you board your flight from Australia and start your adventure in stunning India! Your tour representative will greet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. You will have time to relax and acclimatise after check-in, ready for the start of your tour tomorrow. Day 2: Old and New Delhi (B) Begin your tour in the walled city of Old Delhi, founded by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Travel along the winding streets to Raj Ghat, the memorial and cremation site of Mahatma Gandhi. View the massive Red Fort and ride a rickshaw along the lanes of Chandni Chowk, once the imperial avenue of Mughal royalty. Later, continue to New Delhi; a city of airy boulevards, lush parks and magnificent gardens. Visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Qutab Minar, the world’s tallest brick minaret (spire), and the 20th-century Birla Temple that honours the Hindu goddess of wealth. Drive past the imposing India Gate War Memorial, Parliament House and the Presidential Palace. Day 3: New Delhi – Agra (B, D) Enjoy a morning visit to Akshardham Temple, a beautifully ornate structure carved by 7000 sculptors out of pink sandstone and white marble. The Temple lies in an area of over 100 acres with beautiful gardens, water fountains and carved pavilions and has over 20,000 statues, floral motifs and exquisitely carved pillars. Continue on to Agra, stopping en route at the Tomb of Itmad-ud-Daulah; a breathtaking structure built of the finest Indian marble and embellished with mosaics and semi-precious stones. Day 4: Agra – Taj Mahal & Agra Fort (B) Today’s the day you’ve been waiting for as you visit the astonishing Taj Mahal, built by Emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his beloved Queen. Regarded as the finest example of Mughal design in the world, the Taj Mahal is a masterpiece of white marble and precious stones. Afterwards, stop at Kalakriti Marble and marvel at the museum-quality workmanship as you watch a demonstration of marble carvings, filigree and stone inlay. Later, visit the red sandstone Agra Fort, an incredible maze of walled courtyards, mosques and lavish private chambers. Here, you will visit the Chand Baori, one of the oldest and largest stepwells in India dating back to the 8th or 9th century. Stepwells were conceived by the early natives to function as water reservoirs, and Chand Baori is situated adjacent to the temple dedicated to Harshat Mata, the goddess of joy and happiness. Later, drive to the Ranthambore National Park region, one of the largest and most renowned national parks in Northern India. Take time to enjoy your beautiful new surroundings before dinner tonight at your new hotel. Day 6: Ranthambore National Park Safari (B, L, D) Set out on an early morning drive to the wildlife sanctuary at Ranthambore National Park. A local naturalist guide will join you in a Jeep or Canter vehicle as you begin your search for elusive tigers, hyenas, jackals and foxes. The park is dotted with structures including a huge hilltop fort, and is a true wildlife enthusiast and photographer’s dream. The park is most famous for its tigers and is one of the best locations in India to see these majestic predators in their natural habitat. Day 7: Ranthambore National Park – Jaipur (B) Today travel onwards to Jaipur, gateway to the desert state of Rajasthan. Nicknamed the “Pink City”, Jaipur is full of vibrant city streets lined with colorful stucco buildings. Drive past stunning hilltop forts and glorious palaces en route to the hotel. Visit the world-famous Raj Mandir Cinema, a popular symbol of Jaipur featuring an astonishing meringue-shaped auditorium and ever-changing colourful lighting. Day 8: Jaipur City Tour & Amber Fort (B) Today’s excursion takes you to the spectacular Amber Fort with its gorgeous Palace of Mirrors. On the way, drive past the Hawa Mahal, the “Palace of Winds”. At Amber Fort, ascend the hill to the ramparts by jeep or on the back of an elephant (if available). From here, view the breathtaking panorama of Jaipur’s original city walls and Maota Lake. Afterwards, you will enjoy some refreshments while shopping the vast collection of local wares at Jaipur Handicrafts. Later, visit the beautifully preserved 18th century Jantar Mantar Observatory and the opulent City Palace, a former royal residence and now a grand museum. Day 10: Jodhpur – Ranakpur – Udaipur (B) This morning, depart Jodhpur for Udaipur. Stop at Ranakpur on the way to visit the Jain Temple, crafted of more than a thousand columns of pure white marble and dating back to the 14th and 15th century. See the magnificent views of the surrounding landscape before departing to Udaipur. This “City of Lakes” is celebrated for its fairy-tale marble palaces that seem to rise from the waters of Lake Pichola. Spend the rest of the day acquainting yourself with this beautiful city. Day 11: Udaipur – Lake Pichola (B) Enjoy a morning tour of Udaipur with a visit to the spectacular City Palace. This extravagant palace complex (the largest in Rajasthan) is perched on a lake’s edge and blends medieval, European, and Chinese architecture. Continue on to the Jagdish Temple, the largest and most splendid temple of Udaipur with exterior reliefs of alligators, elephants, horsemen and celestial musicians rising in tiers. The serene setting of the Saheliyon-ki-Bari gardens is your next stop, featuring lovely fountains, lotus pools and marble elephants. Day 12: Udaipur – Mumbai (B, D) Today you board your internal flight from Udaipur to Mumbai, the most populous city in India.
