HIGHLIGHTS Board a traditional Vietnamese junk for a once-in-a-lifetime cruise through Halong Bay, passing caves, grottoes and the thousands of limestone islands that rise vertically from its emerald waters. Hop in a small bamboo boat to visit Luon Cave, one of the most stunning caves in the bay, and be entranced by the emerald lake inside. Take a magical boat ride on Hue’s fabled Perfume River which divides the city’s imperial highlights on the north bank and the European-inspired wonders on the south bank. Step back in time as you tour through Hoi An Ancient Town on the banks of the Thu Bon River, and gain fascinating insights into life at a traditional Southeast Asian trading port. Experience sensory overload as you cruise through the Mekong Delta, an incredible water world where boats, houses and markets float upon its mighty waterways. ITINERARY Day 1: Arrive in Hanoi Upon arrival at Noi Bai International Airport, you will be greeted by a tour representative and transferred to your hotel for check in. Spend the rest of the day getting to know your surroundings in Hanoi. Day 2: Hanoi Free Day (B) Enjoy a full day at leisure to explore Hanoi at your own pace. Optional Activity: Drive to Ninh Binh to visit the ancient capital of Vietnam from 968 AD to 1010 AD during the Dinh and early Le Dynasties. You’ll visit two temples of the Kings, each around a thousand years old. From here, cycle through the region’s quiet countryside roads and watch colourful rice paddies and quaint rural villages pass you by. Later, take a traditional boat trip to visit Tam Coc, often referred to as the ‘Shadow of Halong Bay’. Discover its beautiful limestone islands, rice paddy fields and enchanting caves. Return to Hanoi later in the day. Day 3: Hanoi – Halong Bay Cruise (B, L, D) After an early breakfast make the journey to the stunningly picturesque Halong Bay, made world famous by James Bond in Tomorrow Never Dies. Arriving just before lunch, you’ll embark on a traditional Vietnamese junk. Enjoy lunch on board and admire the fabulous scenery as you gently cruise by the 3,000 limestone islands which amazingly rise from the emerald waters of the bay. The limestone karst formations are littered with beaches, grottoes and beautiful caves, some of which you’ll visit. Day 4: Halong Bay – Hanoi – Hue (B) Spend your morning cruising on to the Man’s Head, Tortoise Island and then Luon Cave by small bamboo boat. Later, disembark at Bai Chay / Tuan Chau where your tour guide will transfer you back to Hanoi airport for your flight to Hue – Vietnam’s last feudal capital. This small and quiet city is widely known for its magnificent architecture, pagodas and royal tombs laid in many small villages and surrounding hills. Day 5: Hue City Tour (B) In the morning, take a boat ride along the romantic Perfume River. Stop off at Thien Mu Pagoda on the banks of the river to see the magnificent seven-storey Stupa. Continue on to visit the mausoleum of Emperor Minh Mang (1791-1841), built between 1841 and 1843. In the afternoon, visit the Imperial Citadel and Forbidden City, created in the 19th century for the Emperors of the Nguyen Dynasty. Shop for souvenirs at Dong Ba Market before transferring back to your hotel. Day 6: Hue – Danang – Hoi An (B) Transfer to Danang in the morning, stopping for a refreshment break at Lang Co beach, home to one of the world’s most beautiful bays. Continue on to Danang to visit the Cham Museum. Afterwards, head to the Hoi An Ancient Town. Check-in to your hotel before enjoying the rest of the day free at leisure. Day 7: Hoi An – Danang – Ho Chi Minh (B) Transfer to the airport and fly to Ho Chi Minh City. Upon arrival, you will be met by your tour guide and transferred to your hotel for check-in. Day 8: Ho Chi Minh Free Day (B) Enjoy a full free day to get to know Ho Chi Minh City! Optional Activity: Half day tour of the Cu Chi Tunnels. Day 9: Ho Chi Minh – Mekong Delta (B) Today you will tour the mighty waterways of the Mekong Delta, only a few hours by coach from Saigon. Visit My Tho, a prosperous town of around 175,000. It’s famous for its extensive orchards and majestic rice fields. Next you’ll take a cruise on the Mekong river. Stop at local islands to sample coconut candy, tropical fruits, honey tea and tradition music. Get on a small boat to discover the Ben Tre province before visiting Vinh Trang Pagoda, one of the most magnificent pagodas in the Tien Giang Province. Transfer back to Saigon later in the day. Day 10: Ho Chi Minh – Depart for Home (B) After breakfast enjoy some free time to do some last minute shopping before transferring to the airport for your return flight back home to Australia.
