Putumayo Presents: Acoustic Christmas
Holiday warmth and good cheer are in abundance on Putumayo's ode to the acoustic side of Christmas music. Featured on ACOUTSIC CHRISTMAS are ten relaxed seasonal songs that feature laid-back vocals, breezy guitars and gentle rhythms. The album begins with the shuffling neo-folk sound of Mindy Smith's original song “It Really Is (A Wonderful Life),” which is followed up with a playful rendition of “Santa Baby” by Arizona-based band The Sugar Thieves, which bears a smoky, bluesy appeal. Speaking of blues, Leon Redbone's “That Old Christmas Moon” has a touch of bluesy grit melded with jazz and a tin-pan alley sound. The acoustic format really brings out the feeling in “The Christmas Song,” sung with smooth sweetness here by Stacey Kent, and Hem's touching “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” gives the album a sublime closure.
