Get set for big screen laughs as all your favourite small screen comedy stars explode into feature-length fun. They are some of the longest-running and most-loved British television comedies ever made. So incredibly popular with audiences, during the 1970s many sitcoms graduated to the cinema screen for a full-blown adventure beyond the bounds of the square TV screen. They were promoted as BIG SCREEN – BIG LAUGHS and now for the first time six of these TV TIE-INS are brought together in this special Collector’s Pack. From work-shy employees ON THE BUSES and the rag and bone men of STEPTOE & SON, to the ludicrous laughs of UP POMPEII and the controversial comedy of TILL DEATH US DO PART and LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR, the original cast, the original movies, and the sauciest of situations to rival the CARRY ON films, with all films featuring their original, rarely seen theatrical trailer plus extensive image galleries from the vaults. ON THE BUSES: When the Town and District Bus Company finds itself short-staffed, it is Inspector Blake who comes up with the brilliant idea of employing women drivers. The company are delighted but the bus crews – led by Stan Butler and his conductor Jack – are horrified. Not only do they now lose out on overtime but the women are considered to be distinctly unattractive! MUTINY ON THE BUSES: Can you believe it? Stan is getting married but flat he had planned to buy for his new life has shot up in price – his only means of making the extra lolly is to be promoted to the new Safari Park route. But a trial run leads to comical disaster, especially when Stan leaves the bus door open, allowing for a cavalcade of unexpected passengers! STEPTOE & SON: The bright lights of the West End beckon for Harold Steptoe when he marries a stripper named Zita. His resentful father, Albert, tags along on their honeymoon, but his usual obstreperous self guarantees no privacy for the newlyweds. A case of food poisoning results in Harold leaving his bride behind and taking Albert back home, forcing an end to wedded bliss that may see Steptoe & Son left holding the baby! UP POMPEII: The Roman Empire is at its height and the citizens of Pompeii spend all the time they can enjoying themselves – except for the slaves that is. In preparation for a wild orgy at his master’s request, Lurcio accidentally picks up a scroll instead of a cucumber, unbeknownst it details the names of conspirators engaged in a plot against Emperor Nero. Will the orgy be a success, or will the papyrus’ plot propel a pall on the party? LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR: Card-carrying unionist Eddie Booth, a socialistic avowed racial discriminator, maintains a constant barrage of abuse at his neighbor, Bill, the happy go-lucky Jamaican with strong Conservative views, who is quite capable of throwing back insults as good as he gets. Waging a colourful feud across the fence, there is no love lost with these neighbours. TILL DEATH US DO PART: Alf Garnett chronicles the hilarious history of his family from the war with Hitler, to the later, and more sporting battle with some other Germans during the 1966 World Cup Final. Alf has weathered the war years in true Garnett fashion with his wife Else, and when the war ends he is still shouting the odds about anything and everything from “bloody socialist’ Harold Wilson to his “randy scouse git” son-in-law.
