You may need to read it again. What Paradex is used forParadex is used for the relief of mild to moderate pain. Paradex contains two active ingredients- dextropropoxyphene hydrochloride and paracetamol. Both drugs have pain relieving properties, however, the combination of the two drugs produces greater pain relief than if either drug was taken alone.Dextropropoxyphene hydrochloride works by affecting the body's feeling and response to pain. It acts on certain receptors on the nerves.Paracetamol acts on certain chemicals in the nerves and blocks pain impulses. Paracetamol can also reduce fever.Your doctor may have prescribed Paradex for another reason. Ask your doctor if you have any questions about why Paradex has been prescribed for you.There have been reports that dextropropoxyphene hydrochloride is addictive. There is no evidence that paracetamol is addictive.This medicine is available only with a doctor's prescription. Before you take ParadexWhen you must not take itDo not take Paradex if you have an allergy to Paradex or any of the ingredients listed at the end of this leaflet.Symptoms of an allergic reaction to Paradex may include:* shortness of breath, wheezing or difficulty breathing* swelling of the face, lips, tongue or other parts of the body* skin rash, itching or hivesDuring the time that you are taking Paradex do not take other paracetamol containing products and do not drink alcohol.Do not take Paradex after the expiry date (EXP) printed on the pack.If it has expired or is damaged, return it to your pharmacist for disposal.Do not take Paradex if the packaging is torn or shows signs of tampering or if the tablets do not look quite right.If you are not sure whether you should start taking Paradex, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.Before you start to take itTell your doctor or pharmacist if you have allergies to:* any other medicines* any other substances, such as foods, preservatives or dyesTell your doctor if you have or have had any medical conditions, especially the following:* suicidal tendencies or prone to drug dependency* kidney disease* liver disease* lung disease* alcoholism (or use of excessive amounts of alcohol)Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant.Paradex is not recommended for use during pregnancy, unless you and your doctor have discussed the risks and benefits involved.Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are breast-feeding or plan to breast-feed.Your doctor or pharmacist will discuss the possible risks and benefits of using Paradex during breast-feeding.If you have not told your doctor or pharmacist about any of the above, tell them before you start taking Paradex.Taking other medicinesTell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including any that you buy without a prescription from your pharmacy, supermarket or health food shop.Some medicines and Paradex may interfere with each other.
