Paradex contains two active ingredients- dextropropoxyphene hydrochloride and paracetamol. Both drugs have pain relieving properties, however, the combination of the two drugs produces greater pain relief than if either drug was taken alone.Dextropropoxyphene hydrochloride works by affecting the body's feeling and response to pain. It acts on certain receptors on the nerves.Paracetamol acts on certain chemicals in the nerves and blocks pain impulses. Paracetamol can also reduce fever.Your doctor may have prescribed Paradex for another reason. Ask your doctor if you have any questions about why Paradex has been prescribed for you. There have been reports that dextropropoxyphene hydrochloride is addictive.
