Experience the world of the Cu Chi freedom fighters with a visit to their famous tunnel system, the Cu Chi Tunnels. Cambodia Tap into the very heart and soul of Cambodia by visiting its historical Angkor Temples, intertwined with tropical jungles and shrouded in ancient mystery. ITINERARY Day 1: Depart Australia for Hanoi (I/F) Depart Australia for Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital. Be welcomed at the airport by your tour guide and head to the city centre for check in at your hotel. Day 2: Hanoi – Halong Bay Cruise (B, L, D) After breakfast, you’ll start the drive through the rice fields of the Red Delta River en route to Halong Bay – one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Embark on your Halong Bay boat cruise, enjoy a fresh seafood lunch on board and visit the bay’s most beautiful caves by kayak. Savour a delicious dinner on board and stay overnight on the Junk. Day 3: Halong Bay – Hanoi (B, L) Early risers have the opportunity to participate in Tai Chi on the top deck of the junk or simply relax and witness the sunrise over the bay’s towering islands. Enjoy a morning cup of coffee or tea before setting out to explore nearby islands by rowboat. Return to the junk for breakfast then take advantage of the sundeck and admire the amazing rock formations of Halong Bay. Return to Hanoi later on in the day. Street food is cheap but seriously delicious, and provides an insight into the intricacies and traditions of Vietnamese cuisine. Day 4: Hanoi City Tour – Danang (B) This morning, you will explore famous landmarks in Hanoi city including the Temple of Literature, Ho Chi Minh Complex (Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, One Pillar Pagoda) and Tran Quoc Pagoda. Then you’ll head to the airport for your flight to Danang. On arrival, meet with your tour guide and transfer to the ancient town of Hoi An. Day 5: Hoi An Walking Tour (B) After breakfast, explore Hoi An’s bustling local market and other attractions with unique architecture including Hoi An Museum, the Old Merchant’s’ House, Assembly Hall and the Japanese Covered Bridge. Enjoy a stroll along the peaceful Thu Bon River, once Vietnam’s most famous trading port. Optional tour: Hoi An cooking class Your chef will take you on a tour to Hoi An market where you’ll get to experience the thrill of a traditional Vietnamese market and learn about cooking ingredients and spices. Day 6: Hoi An – Danang – Saigon City Tour (B, L) This morning you’ll leave Hoi An for your flight to Saigon. On arrival, meet with your tour guide and head off on a tour of Saigon including Notre Dame Cathedral, the Post Office, War Remnant Museum and Ben Thanh market. Day 7: Saigon – Mekong Delta Optional Tour (B) Today you’ll have some free time to explore Saigon or your can take the optional tour of the Mekong Delta. Optional tour: Mekong Delta (lunch) Start your Mekong Delta tour by embarking on a cruise of Ben Tre River, one of tributaries of the Mekong river. Keep at eye open for lively activities along the river and locals going about their daily lives. Stop at a brickwork to learn how to make bricks in traditional style by printing and baking, then visit one of the many coconut processing workshops located along the canal. Head deeper into one of the river’s villages to visit a family hard at work making sleep mats, before jumping on a motor cart or bike to explore nearby rice fields and vegetable plains where you’ll learn about tropical culture from locals. Lunch is served at a riverside restaurant. In the afternoon, take a rowing-boat along Water Palm Creek and board the boat back to Hung Vuong Pier where your transport is waiting to take you back to Saigon. Day 8: Saigon – Siem Reap (B) Today you’ll have a free morning to explore Saigon before you are transferred to the airport for your flight to Siem Reap. On arrival, meet with your tour guide and check in to your hotel. Optional tour: Cu Chi Tunnels Discover the famous Cu Chi Tunnels. Once upon a time, the tunnel system stretched over 250km from Saigon to the Cambodian border and was three levels deep. The network included innumerable trap doors, specially constructed living areas, storage facilities, weapons factories, field hospitals, command centres and kitchens. Today the remaining tunnels have become a major tourist attraction providing visitors with a unique experience and a feel of what underground life was like during the U.S and Vietnam War. Day 9: Siem Reap (B) Today, you will have a full day to explore the mystical Angkor temples. The temples are the perfect fusion of creative ambition and spiritual devotion. They’re without question some of the most amazing manmade monuments in the world. Next stop will be the ancient Ta Prohm Monastery where immense tree life and branches have taken root in the stones – hence the nickname ‘Jungle Temple’. Find some splendid sculptured Devatas and an atmosphere that is truly unique. Visit Angkor Thom and the famous Bayon of the 12th and 13th centuries, dedicated to Buddhism and consisting of 54 gigantic towers featuring 216 smiling faces of Avalokitesvara, the Elephant Terrace. Day 10: Siem Reap – Tonle Sap Lake Optional Tour – Depart for home (B) Enjoy a day at leisure or take the optional tour of Tonle Sap Lake. Later, return to Siem Reap airport for you departure flight back home to Australia.
