Many flying aces, such as Kurt Wolff, Ernst Udet and Manfred von Richthofen, praised the D.III for its exceptional power and performance. It was also the predominant fighter during the month of “Bloody April,” 1917, during which the Allies suffered heavy losses while the Germans dominated the skies.
