Resonator is the new album from NZ jazz drummer Reuben Bradley, released by Rattle Jazz. More than just a modern jazz album, Resonator references the jazz tradition while pursuing an array of rhythms & textures unique to Bradley’s eclectic musical personality. The result is an album of rich musical diversity, where high art meets organic improvisation & eclectic contemporary grooves. Bradley credits time spent in New York & lessons with master drummer Barry Altschul with sparking his desire to record his own material, music that is strongly focussed on the rhythm (of course) within a track, creating a mood or feel that is coloured with the use of traditional instruments & modern studio techniques. The music takes from local traditions & mixes it freely with musical styles from around the globe. Bradley’s career over the past 10yrs has been focussed on the role of sideman for a multitude of fantastic musicians. Over that time he has developed a vision which, with Resonator, he has now realised. Resonator also features appearances from Roger Manins, Tom Callwood (Little Bushman), Miles Crayford, Mostyn Cole, James Illingworth & Kirsten TeRiton. This is eclectic original jazz music for the modern ear: energetic, expressive & conceptually inviting.
