Charles has previously written a non-fiction book about the Battle of New Orleans, called Chalmette, published by the Hickory Tales Publishing Co. out of Bowling Green, Ky and a novel, Crousilleau, which won the Clark Cox Historical Fiction Award in 2010. Charles, his wife Sylvia, and Velcro the cat live at Lake Waccamaw, NC.
