It offers a great (though underutilized) cast and a fantastic sensory experience. The writing is never allowed to breathe, which is a sign of an uncertain helm. The problem with seaQuest DSV isn't so much what is there as what could be; it has more squandered potential than most shows have potential in sum. If you can overlook that, seaQuest DSV is a gem.” DVD Verdict “…a cut above the typical television action series around at the time, the one exception being the previously mentioned Deep Space Nine. Roy Scheider is well cast as the reluctant commander of the vessel. He can pull of the role of a man of science who also has to serve as the military command of a large and powerful submarine. His character of Nathan Bridger is loosely based on famed deep sea explorer Bob Ballard… SeaQuest is a welcomed part of this growing trend of releasing cult classic TV. While many remember this as a lightweight series they are most likely thinking of the later seasons. The first season is pretty solid with good scripts, acting and direction.” hometheaterinfo.com seaQuest DSV is an American science fiction television series created by Rockne S. O'Bannon. It originally aired on NBC between 1993 and 1996. In its final season, it was renamed seaQuest 2032. Set in “the near future”; the year 2018, seaQuest DSV mixed high drama with realistic scientific fiction. It originally starred film star Roy Scheider as Captain Nathan Bridger, designer and commander of the titular naval submarine seaQuest DSV 4600. Jonathan Brandis also starred as Lucas Wolenczak, a teenaged computer genius placed aboard seaQuest by his father and Stephanie Beacham as Kristin Westphalen, the chief medical officer and head of the seaQuest science department. In the third season, Michael Ironside replaced Scheider as lead of the series and starred as Captain Oliver Hudson. Also present was a dolphin character called Darwin who, due to technological advances, was able to communicate with the crew. Steven Spielberg served as one of the show's executive producers during the first two seasons. wikipedia
