Visit Juneau, technically the biggest American city and known for its quaint small-town villages that exist alongside the buzzing cosmopolitan hub Learn about native American culture in the fascinating city of Ketchikan Explore vast landscapes, the stunning Pacific Rim and a vibrant city culture with a 2 night stay Vancouver Journey to Mt Robson, the highest peak of the Canadian Rockies While Italy has Venice and Florence, Canada has Banff and Jasper, legendary natural marvels that are as spectacular and vital as anything the ancient Romans ever built. Discover the Denali National Park, home to the highest mountain in North America. The sheer beauty and expansiveness of the region will give you the feeling of pure isolation and serenity. The Denali area is also famed for it’s abundance of wildlife, and you don’t have to be a hiker to find it. Caribou and moose roam the area, as well as stunning native birds and plants. ITINERARY Day 1: Arrive in Anchorage Welcome to Alaska! Today you will arrive in Anchorage, the political and economic heart of this great state. Although full of the all the comforts you’d expect from a US city, Anchorage is the doorway to the great outdoors and only a 30 minute drive away from the Alaskan wilderness. From the airport, you will be transferred to your hotel where you can settle in and relax ready for tomorrow’s tour. Day 2: Anchorage – Mt. McKinley (B) Enjoy a scenic rail trip to Talkeetna, and from there a motorcoach to your new hotel in the Mt. McKinley area. Take in sweeping views of Denali, the highest mountain peak in North America, as you sip a glass of wine of wine on the deck. Stay overnight at the lodge with this stunning setting as the backdrop. Day 3: Mt. McKinley – Denali National Park Today you will be taken to your new accommodation just outside the entrance to the Denali National Park. The Denali area is one of the most stunning in the whole country, and the lofty peaks and sheer expansiveness of the region give you the feeling of pure isolation and serenity. The area is also famed for it’s abundance of wildlife, and you don’t have to be a hiker to find it. Caribou and moose roam the area, as well as stunning native birds and plants. You could explore on your own, or seek out some of the famous local activities like a husky homestead tour, fly fishing or a glacier landing via helicopter. Return to the lodge for an overnight stay. Day 4: Denali National Park – Whittier, Anchorage – Embark Star Princess Today you will say goodbye to the beautiful Denali area en route to the next step on your adventure. Situated at the gateway to the Passage Canal, the tiny city of Whittier is as quintessential Alaska as it gets. Boasting a population of only 218 citizens, 22 hours of daylight in the summer and stunning panoramic views of the ocean and mountains, Whittier is a jewel of the Alaskan Frontier. From here, you will check in and embark on your 7 night Inside Passage Alaska cruise aboard the Star Princess! Day 5: Aboard the Star Princess – Hubbard Glacier (B, L, D) Off the coast of Yakutat, around 200 miles Northwest of capital Juneau, lies the Hubbard Glacier. This staggering formation is more than 6 miles wide where it meets the ocean, and a truly unforgettable sight. Day 6: Aboard the Star Princess – Glacier Bay National Park (B, L, D) This stunning region is a haven of snowy peaks, tidewater glaciers, streams, woods and forests. Home to a staggering variety of local plants and wildlife, the Glacier Bay National Park is like an untouched oasis amongst the Alaskan seascape. Day 7: Aboard the Star Princess – Skagway (B, L, D) As your ship approaches Skagway, you’ll see the town resting peacefully at the base of a river valley bordered by the Coast Mountains. The mountains, ranging from 5,000 to 7,000ft in height, seem to rise straight up from the saltwater fjord. Today, wooden sidewalks, old-fashioned saloons, quaint gift shops and horse-drawn carriages serve as reminders of the Alaskan Gold Rush days. Day 8: Aboard the Star Princess – Juneau (B, L, D) Juneau is considered by many to be the most beautiful capital city in the nation. Checking in at just a little over 3,100 square miles, Juneau qualifies as the biggest American city – geographically, that is. The terrain is hilly and winding, and narrow streets present a small-town quaintness existing side-by-side with cosmopolitan sophistication. You’ll find great shopping, fine restaurants and superb museums. Day 9: Aboard the Star Princess – Ketchikan (B, L, D) A popular destination along Alaska’s famed Inside Passage, Ketchikan is teeming with Native American culture. Home of the largest concentration of Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian people in the state, this extraordinarily beautiful city on Revillagigedo Island boasts the world’s largest collection of totem poles, and an equally impressive selection of museums and cultural centers featuring Native dance, carvings and artifacts. Ketchikan’s calm waters and surprisingly gentle climate make it a favorite of sports fishermen. Day 10: Aboard the Star Princess – At Sea (B, L, D) When you’re not out exploring breathtaking Alaska, spend your time on board sipping drinks in elegant cocktail bars, get a massage from a cabana in The Sanctuary or catch a movie under the stars at the open air cinema. Day 11: Disembark Vancouver (B) Today your cruise arrives back in Vancouver. Today you will catch a taxi to the Hyatt Regency to depart on your Canadian Rockies Coach Tour. We will drive through the farming communities of the Fraser Valley. Ascend into the Coastal Mountains and follow the Coquihalla Highway to Kamloops, in the arid interior of British Columbia. After lunch, retrace the route of the famous Overlanders along the North Thompson River to reach your hotel in Jasper. Day 12: Jasper – Banff Your day starts with a scenic hike through Maligne Canyon before heading South. Then, travel along the world-famous Icefields Parkway to take in some of nature’s most spectacular mountain scenery. Have your camera ready for possible wildlife sightings! Highlights include Athabasca Falls, Peyto Lake, and the Columbia Icefield. You could ride the “Ice Explorer” on Athabasca Glacier, or visit the Glacier Skywalk (subject to extra fees). Day 13: Banff National Park Enjoy a full day of sightseeing in Banff National Park. Start your morning with a leisurely hike in Johnston Canyon and stroll along the shores of picturesque Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. In summer, the area attracts almost as many visitors to its trails, waters and rock faces. Peer into turquoise Lake Louise in Banff National Park, three miles from the town of the same name, and be amazed by the colour. In the afternoon, visit the world famous Banff Springs Hotel and Bow Falls. With your free time in Banff, you may also choose from optional activities such as soaking in the natural spa at the Upper Hot Springs or taking a gondola ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain. Stay overnight in Lake Louise. Day 14: Banff – Vancouver This morning, enjoy a drive through Rogers Pass, the highest part of the route to the Rockies. On your scenic return journey through Yoho National Park, catch a glimpse of an engineering marvel: the Spiral Tunnels. Arrive in downtown Vancouver in the evening. Day 15: Vancouver Free Day Today you have a free day to explore Vancouver at leisure. Blessed with a spectacular Pacific Rim location, Vancouver is a study in contrasts and cohesion. Set between the mountains and the sea, the city blends cultures and landscapes, allowing visitors to enjoy a modern, cosmopolitan city alongside the great outdoors. Day 16: Vancouver – Australia Today you will make your own way to the airport to board your international flight back to Australia. WHAT WE LOVE Alaska is far from a humdrum holiday destination.
