Stop at beautiful Johnston Canyon for a nature walk next to a stream that takes you toward a series of waterfalls. Back on the coach, you’ll continue to Lake Louise, an emerald-colored lake tucked between a series of mountain peaks below Victoria Glacier. Stop for a quick lunch at the lake before heading up toward the glacier, and then take a look inside the historic Fairmont Chateau hotel, situated at the edge of Lake Louise. You’ll also visit nearby Moraine Lake, another amazing alpine sight, as well as the Valley of the Ten Peaks. Moving on, head over the Great Divide and into Yoho National Park, via the picturesque Kicking Horse Pass, for a stop at the Spiral Tunnels. Then finish your sightseeing at magnificent Takakkaw Falls before heading back to Banff in the late afternoon. Day 4: Banff – Jasper (L) Travel by coach today via one of the most scenic highways in North America – the Icefields Parkway. Visit the Columbia Icefield that covers an area of nearly 325 sq km and reaches a depth of 1050 ft. Take an exhilarating Ice Explorer ride on the Athabasca Glacier, then a stop at the award-winning Glacier Skywalk, a glass-floored observation platform 918 ft over spectacular glacier-formed valleys and rushing waterfalls. This highway is also renowned for sightings of bears, elk, moose and mountain sheep, so keep your camera handy. Please note: mountain lakes in this region will be frozen through to mid-June. Enjoy a picnic lunch and arrive at your new hotel in Jasper. Day 5: Jasper Enjoy a wonderful wildlife tour in Jasper. Journey to the Athabasca Valley and the Maligne and Miette, home to the greatest mega-fauna sightings in the entire Rockies! Your expert wildlife guide will give you the opportunity to encounter the likes of bears, elk, coyote, sheep, wolves and moose, as well as learning about these creatures and the Mountain ecosystem that supports them. This is a driving based tour, where you will exit the vehicle at designated stops to take photographs and access viewpoints. Day 6: Jasper – Rocky Mountaineer Rail – Kamloops (B, L) All aboard! After a delicious breakfast today you will jump on the Rocky Mountaineer for a scenic rail journey to Kamloops in the interior of British Columbia. Leaving Jasper National Park, travel the ‘Yellowhead’ route past the sprawling grandeur of Mount Robson; the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. Follow the mighty Thompson River, the route of early fur traders, before arriving in Kamloops. Day 7: Kamloops – Rocky Mountaineer Rail – Vancouver (B, L) Today you will leave Kamloops and follow the Thompson River through Ashcroft, one of Canada’s driest towns. Pass through Rainbow Canyon named for its cliffs striped with pinks, greens and greys. Continue on to the Fraser Canyon, and watch water torrent past the canyon walls at Hell’s Gate. The last leg of the journey takes you through the fertile farming region of the Fraser Valley to arrive in the Pacific port of Vancouver later this afternoon. Day 8: Vancouver (B) Today is a free day for you to explore Vancouver at leisure. Blessed with a spectacular Pacific Rim location, Vancouver is a study in contrasts and cohesion. Set between the mountains and the sea, the city blends cultures and landscapes, allowing visitors to enjoy a modern, cosmopolitan city alongside the great outdoors. Day 9: Vancouver (B) Spend some more time relaxing and getting to know the city at your own pace. Those wishing to explore the surrounds can join todays optional activity – a tour of nearby Whistler. Optional activity: Whistler day tour: Famous as a snow and ski hotspot, this mountain town is as fun-filled and charming as it is picturesque. Day 10: Vancouver (B) Take advantage of the Hop-On, Hop-Off City Attractions Tour, the easiest way to enjoy Vancouver’s most popular areas. Visit Stanley Park, Chinatown, Gastown, Granville Island and more! Our tour features a live commentary so you’ll have the opportunity to learn what makes this spectacular city so special, as well as the freedom to hop on and off at the sites that interest you most. Day 11: Vancouver – Seattle – Emerald Princess (D) Today you will check out of your hotel and head head to the Seattle Cruise Dock to check in for your 5 Star Alaska Inside Passage cruise aboard the stunning Emerald Princess! Settle in and explore the ship before departing at 4pm and enjoying a delicious feast onboard. Day 12: At Sea (B, L, D) You’ll sail into the protected Alaska Inside Passage, home to diverse wildlife—orca, mountain goats, bald eagles, bears, puffins, sea otters and more—the complex labyrinth of fjords and bays are where whales and sea lions find refuge during the summer months. 40-ton whales can often be seen hurling themselves into the air, almost completely escaping the water. Day 13: Ketchikan (B, L, D) Ketchikan clings to the banks of the Tongass Narrows, flanked by green forests nurtured by abundant rain. Ketchikan has long been an important hub of the salmon-fishing – visitors can try their luck on a sportfishing excursion or simply savor the fresh seafood at one of the local restaurants. It’s also one of the best spots along the Inside Passage to explore the rich cultures of Native Alaskan peoples like the Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian. You can see intricately carved totem poles and even the Tlingit culture in action, with working carvers and a dance show in the clan house. Don’t leave without a visit to historic Creek Street, a boardwalk built over the Ketchikan Creek, where you can shop for souvenirs, smoked salmon and local art. Return to the ship for a 3pm departure. Day 14: Tracy Arm (Twin Sawyer Glaciers) – Juneau (B, L, D) Sail to the Tracy Arm Fjord in the morning. One of the most spectacular cruise destinations on earth, Tracy Arm Fjord is actually made up of two separate fjords. Both fjords are over 30 miles long and one-fifth of their area is covered in ice. With hundreds of waterfalls, epic glaciers and a huge variety of native wildlife, you won’t want to blink as you cruise past this natural wonder. Continue to sail onto Juneau arriving around 12.30pm. Juneau is considered by many to be the most beautiful capital city in the nation. Checking in at just a little over 3,100 square miles, Juneau qualifies as the biggest American city – geographically, that is. The terrain is hilly and winding, and narrow streets present a small-town quaintness existing side-by-side with cosmopolitan sophistication. You’ll find great shopping, fine restaurants and superb museums. Depart again at 10pm. p{background-color: #f1f1f1; width: auto;display: inline-block; padding: 10px;border-radius: 3px;margin-top: 10px;margin-bottom: 0;}. Day 15: Skagway (B, L, D) As your ship approaches Skagway, you’ll see the town resting peacefully at the base of a river valley bordered by the Coast Mountains. The mountains, ranging from 5,000 to 7,000ft in height, seem to rise straight up from the saltwater fjord. Today, wooden sidewalks, old-fashioned saloons, quaint gift shops and horse-drawn carriages serve as reminders of the Alaskan Gold Rush days. Return to the ship for a 5pm departure. Day 16: At Sea (B, L, D) Make sure that you take full advantage of the multiple dining and entertainment options on board. The Rooftop Sun Deck is sure to please, with cozy furniture and a big screen – perfect for kicking back in the Alaskan sun with a cocktail. In the evening, treat yourself to a special dinner at SHARE by Curtis Stone, or try your luck and have some fun in the Vegas-style Casino. Day 17: Victoria, British Columbia (B, L, D) This picture-postcard town keeps its roots firmly planted in its English heritage. With quaint shops and cafes and a decidedly bohemian vibe, Victoria is a capital city that would make any province proud. Victoria is home to British Columbia’s best museums and bicycle tracks, as well as Beacon Hill, a park fringed by the stunning coastline. The ship departs at midnight tonight. Day 18: Seattle – Australia (B) Arrive in Seattle around 7am and transfer to the airport for your flight back to Australia. We hope you enjoyed your time in Alaska and Canada! Day 19: In Flight In flight. Day 20: Arrive Australia Arrive home in Australia today. WHAT WE LOVE Alaska is far from a humdrum holiday destination.
