Information General Information Identifies the best days to conceive Special Features At-home screening test to identify the best days to try and concieve Assists conception and pregnancy planning  Over 99% accurate Convenient in-stream urine test Simple to use, gives result in 5 minutes Contains 5 tests The Babystart Ovulation Test is a simple screening test to detect increases in the LH (luteinising hormone) in a woman's urine - an increase in this hormone indicates ovulation is about to occur.  By detecting this most fertile time of a woman's menstrual cycle and timing intercourse accordingly, it increases the chances of successful conception. Health information Having trouble conceiving? You're not alone.  Around 1 in 6 couples in Australia experience delays in trying to conceive, and research indicates the issue can often be timing. Women are actually only fertile for around five days in each cycle and only highly fertile for around two days.  In order for pregnancy to occur, sperm must fertilise the egg within 24 hours after its release from the ovary (ovulation).  Knowing when ovulation is about to occur is therefore a crucial step in correctly timing intercourse in this "window" and successfully falling pregnant. How to improve timing? The Babystart Ovulation Test can identify the best days to conceive.  This helps a couple time intercourse with ovulation, one of the key steps to successful conception. Conception: explainedIn the first phase of the menstrual cycle, after the bleeding stops, an egg matures in the ovaries.  This process normally takes around 14 days but can vary from woman to woman and cycle to cycle. At the same time, the lining of the womb begins to thicken in preparation for pregnancy. When the egg is mature a hormone called Luteinising Hormone (LH) is released into the bloodstream and triggers ovulation i.e., the release of the egg.  This is when a woman is most fertile.  Ideally a woman will have had intercourse around this time so that the released egg meets with a sperm that can fertilise the egg. After the egg is fertilised it moves down the fallopian tube to the womb.  The developing embryo then implants into the thickened lining of the womb and pregnancy results.  If fertilisation does not occur, the womb lining breaks down and a new menstrual period (bleeding) begins. Product informationHow the Babystart Ovulation test worksThe Babystart Ovulation Test is a simple at-home method of identifying a woman's most fertile days. Hormonal signals can tell us when ovulation is about to occur.  Immediately prior to ovulation the body produces a large about of luteinising hormone (LH) which triggers the release of a ripened egg from the ovary.  This is known as an "LH surge", and usually takes place in the middle of the menstrual cycle.  It is during this fertile time that pregnancy is most likely to occur. The Babystart Ovulation Test is a quick and easy way to detect surges of LH in the urine, signalling that ovulation is likely to occur in the next 24 to 48 hours. It is important to note that an LH surge and ovulation may not occur in all cycles.  Before you begin testing:Please read all the information in the instruction sheet before performing the test. This kit contains 5 tests, allowing you to test over several days to find your most fertile time.  Calculate when to start testing using the chart in the instruction booklet. First, determine your Menstrual Cycle length.  This is the number of days from the first day of your period (the day you begin bleeding) to the last day before the period starts. Match up the length of your menstrual cycle with the corresponding ‘day to start testing’ number on the chart (so for example, if your cycle is 28 days long, you’d need to start testing at day 11). NOTE: First morning urine should NOT be used when testing for LH.  For best results, you should test around the same time each day.  You should reduce your liquid intake approximately 2 hours before testing. Miscellaneous Drug Interactions Warnings Please read all the information in this instruction sheet before performing the test. Store in a dry place below 30°C Do not freeze Do not use if pouch is torn or damaged KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. For in-vitro diagnostic use (not for internal use)  Do not use this product after the expiry date Do not open the test foil pouch until you are ready to start the test. Common Uses Ingredients Directions Determine the day you will begin testing using the chart (above). Remove the Test from the foil pouch. Remove the cap, then replace the cap on the thumb grip to elongate the device and avoid urine splashing on your hand. Hold the test by the thumb grip with the exposed absorbent tip pointing downward directly into your urine stream for at least 10 seconds, until it is thoroughly wet. Note: do not urinate on the test and control windows. If you prefer, you can urinate into a clean and dry container, then dip only the absorbent tip of the test into the urine for at least 10 seconds. After removing the test from the urine, immediately replace the cap over the absorbent tip, lay the test out on a flat surface with the test and control windows facing upwards, and then being timing. Read the result at 5 minutes.  If no red line appears, wait one minute longer.  Do not read the result after 10 minutes. Reading the results PositiveA positive result is indicated by the presence of two red lines in both the test window (T) and the control window (C ).  The line in the test window must be the same or darker red than the line in the control window.  This indicates that you will probably ovulate within the next 24-48 hrs. NegativeA negative result is indicated by either:a) the presence of two red lines where the line in the test window is a lighter red than the line in the control window, OR:b) no line in the test window at all. This indicates that no LH surge has been detected and daily testing should be continued. Invalid testThe result is invalid if no red line appears in the control window (C ), even if a line appears in the test window (T).  You should repeat the test with a new strip. LIMITATIONSThere is a possibility this test can produce false positive or false negative results.  Invalid results are most likely caused by not following the instructions properly.  Review the instructions and repeat the test with a new test.  If the problem persists, discontinue using the test kit and contact the distributor.  Women suffering from Polycystic ovary syndrome may have an elevated LH level.  In this case the test result will be a false positive.  Pregnant women should not use the test since their urine contains hormones which will also give a false positive result.
