Visit the adorable Giant Pandas and other rare native Chinese wildlife at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Sail the tranquil waters of the Yangtze River on a 4 night luxury cruise including all meals and entertainment. Stand at the foot of the colossal towering Buddha at Leshan. Journey to the sacred Nine Villages Valley for blue lakes, waterfalls, verdant forests and snow-covered mountains. ITINERARY Day 1: Depart Australia Pack your bags and board an overnight flight via a connecting city to Changsha, the capital of central China’s Hunan province. Day 2: Arrive in Changsha (L, D) On arrival in Changsha, you will be warmly greeted at the airport by your tour guide and transferred to your hotel. Take the rest of the day to relax and settle in. Day 3: Changsha – Zhangjiajie (B, L, D) Today, enjoy breathtaking scenery exploring the UNESCO World Heritage listed Zhangjiajie area. You will be amazed by the mix of spectacular limestone formations, sub-tropical forests, waterfalls and mountain ranges. The prototypes for the Floating Hallelujah Mountains featured in the Hollywood blockbuster “Avatar” are found here in Zhangjiajie. Visit Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, set up in 1982. The park features fantastical peaks, sparkling brooks and abundant fauna and flora. Feast on a welcome banquet tonight that showcases the local cuisine. Day 4: Zhangjiajie (B, L, D) Today you will visit Tianzi Mountain Natural Resource Reserve. Rich in sky-high peaks and spectacular rock formations, the reserve is renowned for its ethereal clouds and mist, luminous moon, enchanting winter snow and blushing dawn and dusk clouds. Explore the Yellow Dragon Cave, known as “the most beautiful cave in China”. Optional Activity: Tianmen Fox Fairy Show This evening, you will have the opportunity to purchase tickets to the spectacular musical drama “Tianmen Fox Fairy”. Based on a traditional Chinese myth and folktale, the show is performed at the foot of Tianmen Mountain, with the high mountains and deep valleys as a magnificent backdrop. Day 5: Zhangjiajie – Fenghuang (B, L, D) Today you will be whisked off to Fenghuang (“Phoenix”) County, an exceptionally well-preserved ancient town that harbours unique ethnic languages, customs and arts as well as distinctive architectural remains of the Ming and Qing eras. The surrounding mountain slopes are covered with green foliage, the fields are lush and green and the nearby Tuo Jiang River adds to the verdant charm of this picturesque province. Day 6: Fenghuang – Yichang – Embark Yangtze River Cruise (B, L, D) After breakfast this morning you will travel by coach to Yichang, the economic and cultural centre of China’s Hubei province and starting point of your Yangtze River adventure. On arrival, you will be transferred to the docks to board the luxury 5 Star Yangtze River Cruise. You will receive a welcome introduction on all cruise events and activities on board. Days 7 – 9: Yangtze River Cruise (B, L, D) For the next few days, you will sail along the tranquil waters of the Yangtze on a luxury floating hotel. As well as the fantastic amenities and activities on board, you will also enjoy several port stops along the way to explore the local area. Take a tour to the Three Gorges Dam, the largest dam in the world and enjoy the beautiful scenery as you cross through the Yangtze Three Gorges: Xiling Gorge, Wu Gorge and Qutang Gorge. There will be several more shore excursions for you to to explore the area’s fascinating history and the tranquil landscapes at your own leisure. Day 10: Disembark in Chongqing (B, L, D) Disembark from the cruise in the port city of Chongqing this morning. Enjoy a short tour of the city’s historic sites, including the Residence of General Joseph W. Stilwell, People’s Assembly Hall, and Hongya Cave, followed by a dinner of famous Chongqing hot pot in the evening. Day 11: Chongqing – Huanglong – Jiuzhaigou (B, L, D) Today you will board a flight from Chongqing to Jiu Zhai Huang Long Airport in China’s Sichuan province, and from there travel by coach to Jiuzhaigou; a stunning national park area know as the “Nine Villages Valley”. Days 12 – 13: Jiuzhaigou (B, L, D) You will have the next few days to experience the breathtaking Nine Villages Valley Scenic Area. Jiuzhaigou is a great masterpiece of nature, with dreamlike scenery and abundant natural resources. It combines blue lakes, waterfalls, verdant forests, snow-covered mountains, and the fascinating traditional customs of the Tibetan and Qiang peoples. Your accommodation in the valley is perfectly placed for you to explore here, in one of the most beautiful areas in all of China. Day 14: Jiuzhaigou – Huanglong – Chengdu (B, L, D) This morning you will travel by coach to Huanglong. The Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Areas are nicknamed the ‘World Wonder’ and a ‘Fairy Land on Earth’ for good reason. Hundreds of sparkling mineral pools populate the area, where beautiful colours intertwine and shimmering water cascades down the mountains. After some time to have a good look around, continue to the airport to board your flight to Chengdu. Day 15: Chengdu (B, L, D) Today’s highlight is a visit to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. The best place to see Chengdu’s most famous residents, the centre imitates the panda’s natural habitat to ensure they have the best possible environment for breeding and rearing young. The centre also cares for other rare and endangered wild animals. In the afternoon, explore the dynamic folk custom street Jin Li, and experience the lifestyle of Old Chengdu. Optional Activity: Face Changing Show This evening, you may choose to enjoy a fascinating optional show featuring Face Changing; a somewhat magical traditional Chinese dramatic art that is the pride of the Sichuan opera. Day 16: Chengdu – Leshan – Mount Emei (B, L, D) Today, take a coach and boat trip to Leshan to marvel at the Grand Buddha, an enormous statue carved into the side of the Lingyun Mountain. The Buddha is over 71m tall and is wide enough for over 100 people to sit between its feet. Later this afternoon, travel onwards to Mount Emei, one China’s most most impressive mountains and an extremely sacred Buddhist site. Stay overnight with this magnificent mountain as a backdrop. Day 17: Mount Emei – Chengdu (B, L, D) Today you will have some more time to explore the magnificent Mount Emei. Towering, beautiful, old and mysterious, Mount Emei is an enormous green monument standing in the southwest of the Chengdu Plain. It is the highest amongst all the famous sightseeing mountains in China. Return to Chengdu later in the evening. Day 18: Depart from Chengdu (B) Enjoy the morning at leisure before you are transferred to Chengdu airport to board your overnight flight via a connecting city to Australia.
