How we make money and collect prices
How we make money
lowerSpendings is free to use. We earn money in two ways:
- Affiliate commission. Many of the stores we list pay us a commission, usually through an affiliate network such as Commission Factory, when you click a "Buy" link and then buy something. You pay the store's normal price; the commission comes out of the store's pocket, not yours.
- Ads. We show ads from Google. They're separate from our comparisons.
Not every store we list pays us. We list some stores that pay nothing, because a comparison is only useful if it includes them.
How we rank results
- Nobody can pay for a higher place in our results, and there are no sponsored listings.
- Whether a store pays us commission, or how much, doesn't affect which products we show or in what order.
- Search results are ordered by how well they match your search and how good the deal is. "Daily deals" favour products whose price has recently dropped, across a mix of categories we choose.
- If you've used the site before, the home page is personalised from the products you've viewed, liked or set alerts on (see our Privacy Policy).
Where our prices come from
- Most prices, product details and images come from product feeds that stores publish through affiliate networks. A few come from stores' public websites.
- We check them about once a day. A store can change its price at any time, so the price on its website when you buy is the one that counts. Please check it, and the delivery costs, before you buy.
- We keep a history of each product's price from the day we started tracking it. Labels such as "was $X", "lowest price in 90 days" and "% below its usual price" are worked out from that history and only shown when the history supports them. They describe what we've seen, not every price the product has ever had.
- We don't cover every store or every product in Australia, so a lower price may be available somewhere we don't list.
