California Oak: A Classic Shape with Natural Character

The California gives you a generous headboard without a heavy-looking bed. Its smooth timber surface creates a beautiful backdrop for layered pillows, while straight legs and an open footend keep the shape clean. Victorian Ash Oak adds grain and warmth that you can enjoy every time you walk into the room.

This is a versatile design for a bedroom you want to keep for years. It sits comfortably beside both simple modern furniture and more traditional pieces, and the choice of finish helps you bring the room together without having to replace everything around it.

Choose the Clearance Beneath Your Bed

Select 5cm, 10cm, 15cm or 20cm under-bed clearance, or choose a higher 25cm, 30cm or 35cm option at an additional cost. Matching California bedsides can complete the room. Already have a headboard you love? A separate California base-only design is also available.

Your Choice of Oak Finish

Solid Victorian Ash Oak is used for the frame’s borders, legs and side rails, with oak veneer and solid timber framing in the larger headboard and footboard panels. Choose a tinted lacquer finish, or the optional LIVOS Kunos linseed-oil finish—chemical-free and allergy friendly. Explore our natural stain options.

How Would You Like Your Mattress to Sit?

Sit flush: the mattress rests on top of the frame, with no raised retaining lip along the rails or footend. Sit inside 2cm: the mattress sits 2cm down within the frame. Select your preferred fit when ordering.

Support You Can Rely On

Solid pine slats measure 90mm × 35mm with 70mm spacing. Queen includes centre support; King and Super King add two support legs to the floor. Single, King Single and Double have no centre support as standard, with heavy-duty support available by request. Double through Super King have a combined weight capacity of 380kg.

Need Storage as Well?

Drawers or a gas-lift base can be quoted as a custom upgrade. Optional drawers have solid NZ pine linings, full-extension metal runners and a 70kg load capacity per drawer. Choose top or bottom finger pulls; push-to-open is available from $80 per drawer.

Gas-Lift Build Details

The optional lift supports up to 90kg and provides 35cm internal storage height. It uses four metal beams from head to foot, a central floor leg and 15 plywood slats (55mm × 10mm, 70mm gaps). A two-strut lift opens to about 45 degrees; the four-strut duo lift moves the mattress forward while keeping it level, making the head-end storage and mattress easier to reach.
