Miles Ahead was awarded 5 stars by Downbeat Magazine in 1957, but Miles was delighted by a more personal assessment when he recalled Dizzy Gillespie requesting a second copy ofthe LP as he had worn his first copy out! The Davis-Evans partnership proved to be one of artistic brilliance. Miles was allowed free reign - despite the array of outstanding musicians on the Miles Ahead tour dates, for he was the only featured soloist. The music he and Gil Evans made on this LP will tell you everything you need to know about their joint artistry and legacy.
