British gothic metal pioneers Paradise Lost once again demonstrate their mastery with their album Obsidian. The album is a showcase of their rich career, seamlessly weaving the heavy doom of their early years with the melancholic, gothic atmospheres for which they later became known. The result is a dynamic journey through crushing riffs, somber melodies, and the signature vocal alternation between deep growls and clean, dark vocals. Obsidian feels like a refined and dark summary of everything the band has to offer.
Paradise Lost's music on Obsidian is best described as gothic metal and doom metal . The sound combines the heaviness of early doom with the refined, melancholic elements the band has developed over the years.
