About this product
Welcome to another death-defying chapter in the long, intrepid history of the Hoodoo Gurus. Silk Purse is a complete recording of the band's historic debut with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at Sidney Myer
Music Bowl on Thursday, 29 January 2026.
It was, says Dave Faulkner, their frontman and songwriter, "a true collaboration" with arranger Alex Turley and the MSO, led by conductor Nicholas Buc, "and that was the point from the outset. It’s not just greatest hits with strings on it. We were very conscious of trying to choose material that we thought would be heightened by the orchestra."
The result, over 20 tracks and 90 minutes that faithfully capture every beat of that perfect summer night, is around 50 percent deep cuts and 50 percent generation-defining radio classics. As they well know, fans "could almost go to Consumer Affairs and complain if we didn’t play Bittersweet and 1000 Miles Away and Miss Freelove '69.
Presented on 2LP vinyl with bonus 7", complete with printed inner sleeves and a poster insert, Silk Purse captures the energy, scale and atmosphere of the night.
