The Tokyo Custom Timber Platform Bed brings Japanese-inspired simplicity to solid pine furniture, with a low platform that extends around the mattress and gives the bed its distinctive horizontal outline. The broad, unbroken headboard rises above the base, balancing its low stance without adding decorative panels or cut-outs. A substantial plinth beneath the platform keeps the profile grounded, allowing the shape of the timber itself to do the work.

The exposed platform edge is an intentional part of Tokyo’s design, making room for the natural grain of New Zealand Pine around the mattress. Solid pine construction throughout, together with thick slats beneath the sleeping surface, gives this pared-back bed a substantial foundation. A light finish emphasises the relaxed character of the timber; a darker stain turns the same wide surfaces into a stronger, more defined feature.

Keep the platform look.
The mattress sits within Tokyo’s surround, leaving the broad timber ledge visible along the sides and foot. Its low plinth is part of the standard design; if you need a different base height or mattress arrangement, include those requirements in your custom-quote enquiry.

Choose your finish.
Choose a lighter tone to reveal the platform’s natural grain, or a deeper stain to give its broad edge and plinth a more pronounced outline.

Tinted lacquer: Choose from a wide range of pine colours, from light, natural-looking shades to warm browns and deeper tones. The lacquer colours and seals the timber with a smooth protective coating; black and white finishes are available at an additional cost.

Natural knots, grain patterns and differences in tone are part of solid pine’s character. The same stain can show subtle variations across the headboard, rails and foot end.

A Substantial Platform, Built to Support

Tokyo is made entirely from solid New Zealand Pine, including the headboard, platform surround and supporting base. The pine headboard is solid timber, with no veneer panels, giving the bed consistent material quality throughout.

Heavy-duty solid pine slats form a firm supporting base, with gaps for airflow beneath the mattress. The support system is matched to the bed size:

• Slat dimensions: 90mm wide × 35mm thick, with approximately 70mm between slats.
• Double: 11 solid pine slats, without centre support as standard.
• Queen: 12 solid pine slats with centre support beneath them.
• King and Super King: 12 solid pine slats with centre support and two additional support legs reaching the floor.
• Optional reinforcement: Heavy-duty centre support can be added to Double when ordering.
